Fibers of Light Artist Statement
Fibers of Light is a photographic series that attempts to convey the physical embodiment of light. For most light is considered intangible and abstract. This series focuses on demonstrating the tangible, textural and physical qualities of light. Using my camera's lens and shallow depth of field, I bend natural sunlight hitting mundane objects such as the material in car headlights and chain-link fence to create these light-forms. The otherworldly subject not only displays the rays of light but also the striations of spectral color separation. The surface quality grounds abstract forms with concrete attributes while simultaneously providing an alternate mode of reality. It is in this practice that photographs appropriate the mundane to provide phenomenological corporeal transcendence.
